06-09 Misty Mountain Campground - Crozet, Virginia

From 06-09 Misty Mountain Campground

We are in Crozet, Virginia at the Misty Mountain Campground. We are about a 15 minute drive from Charlottesville, home of the University of Virginia and the nearby homes of Presidents Jefferson, Monroe and Madison. We primarily came here to tour Jefferson's home, Monticello, and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountain area.

This is a truly beautiful area. In fact the whole drive from Mt Airy to Crozet was gorgeous. However we have once again been plagued with rain. We have only had 2 days out of 5 days without rain and that follows many days of rain in Mt Airy and Charleston. If there is a part of the country that is in a drought, we need to head that way to help them out. The rains seem to be following us.

This is a nice campground, but it has the narrowest campsites we have yet experienced outside of a rally. The sites are plenty long but very narrow. For example our neighbor’s patio awning is almost touching the awning over the window in our bedroom slide. We are here because, based on my research, this seemed to be the best choice in the area.

We are beside a pretty stream and there are nice areas to walk Clay. Unfortunately Clay is not doing well. Arthritis has hit him very hard in the last couple of months so he moves very slow and can not walk far before he has to sit down. We have him on some new pain meds and on prednisone about every 2 weeks. They help but he has lost a lot of strength from not being able to move.

We look forward to doing some touring now that the rains have stopped at least for a few days.
