06-09 Amish Farm Country

From 06-09 White Oak Campground
We have moved to White Oak Campground a few miles south of Strasburg, PA and about 20 minutes from Lancaster,PA. We are in the middle of Amish Country. This is another pretty area with farmlands spread over rolling hills and valleys.

We have not done much touring and may not while we are here. We were tired from all the touring we did in Virginia and Gettysburg. We had planned to tour here Friday but just did not make it. We had some errands to run and work to do around the RV. For one we had to stay here so a repairman could come fix our Splendide combo washer/dryer. Monique uses it quite a lot. You have to use it a lot to get much done since it has a small capacity, and you use the same machine for both washing and drying. We wish we could install a stacked apartment size washer and dryer, but we do not have quite enough room. Anyway the Spendide is back in action and running as I write this.

We did ride around late one evening and enjoy the countryside in the vicinity of the campground. The Amish have some large dairy farms. In fact this area looks more like what I had expected to see in Wisconsin since that is the dairy state. The farms are lovely, but boy do you get some strong “farm” odors from all those cows.

We also stumbled across a one lance covered bridge.

I have made one purchase since arriving. We are carrying our own little flower garden along with us.

Our friend Dede Fisher started us with a gift of a Citronella plant, which I think is a type of non-flowering geranium. We then added a hanging basket of white and purple petunias while in Seneca, SC. Along the way I have picked up 2 more pots from different Wal-Marts. In Strasburg I stopped at an Amish greenhouse and bought a beautiful hanging basket with the same color flowers as our other pots. We do not hang the baskets but rather set them on small folding tables and a small step stool. I think I have now reached the capacity of what I can cram into the Honda CRV when we move from place to place.

We are here until Wednesday when we leave for Bath, NY where we stay for a month.
